Best and Worst Onscreen Chemistry

                                                    Photo from gracewells533 at flickr

I wish I could get a job telling Hollywood directors whom to cast with whom.  Some stars just do not have sexual chemistry together, and it makes the film fall flat.  Sometimes I actually cringe when I see them kiss on screen.   Sexual tension means we need good Venus and Mars conjunctions, squares and oppositions, with Uranus and Pluto hard aspects thrown in there too. Aspects to the Ascendant can create chemistry as well.  It seems that the easy aspects just don't produce the  necessary sexual tension/chemistry onscreen.

What about Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler in the Bounty Hunter?  Did you buy it?  They do have one Venus Mars sextile between them, and her Uranus trines his Mars, but that's about it. Easy aspects. They're probably good friends, but no compelling chemistry.

Remember Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts in The Mexican?  Bad movie yes....but probably because they had no sexual tension.   Julia's Venus Pluto conjunction in Virgo does trine Brad's Moon Venus in Capricorn. Actually, they have loads of easy aspects....and that's the problem. They probably get along really well with all those easy aspects and are great friends, but that's it. Nothing else. No hard aspects to bring us the excitement, and we can feel it onscreen.  I cringe even looking at the pic below.

Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn in Four Christmases. Well, they're both Aries Suns to start, which is good for combative banter, but she has Venus and Mars in water, and he has Venus in Aries and Mars is Taurus. Nothing exciting there at all.

So, who had the best onscreen chemistry?

Kate Winslet and Leo Dicaprio - her Mars inconjuncts his Venus, and her Venus sextiles his Mars. Plus, his North node is on her Venus! This is the aspect of love affair, so we completely bought the story. I'm sure they have great affection in real life as well.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder from the Vampire Diaries.  Who didn't feel that chemistry from day one?   The charts say it all. His Mars is right on top of her Venus. And his Pluto opposes her Mars. It's hot, that's for sure, and I can see why they're a couple in real life.

Richard Gere and Julia Roberts were a favourite pair. His Uranus exactly opposes her Mars, and his Venus widely squares it.

Hawaii 5-0 cutie Alex O'Loughlin (Steve McGarrett) and Lauren German (agent Lori West).  I always felt the chemistry between these two, and was sad when she left the show.  Maybe she's coming back?  The charts show great chemistry/tension between them.  His Mars and Venus in Virgo squares her Mars in Sag, and his Uranus is right on top of her Venus.  Definite palpable chemistry.  His North Node is also on her Venus...one of the aspects of lovers  (like Leo and Kate had).

If they had actually done something with their characters and gotten them together it could've been a great romantic combo.  Alex used to date a woman named Amber Clayton back from his Three Rivers days.  She was born 13 days before Lauren German, so her chart has many of the same placements as Lauren, showing that Lauren was likely the right pick.

Actually, Scott Caan (Danno) and Alex O'Loughlin share the same birthday, and therefore the same chart.  Well, almost.  They were born a few hours apart on different days (Scott late on Aug 23rd, 1976 and Alex early on Aug 24th, 1976) so they have different rising signs, but they both have this onscreen tension/chemistry with Lauren German.

Signs of Countries and Cities

                                                    Vancouver Pioneers

Deepak Chopra was here in Vancouver yesterday talking about his new Chopra Yoga centre opening.  When the interviewer asked why here, he said its because Vancouver is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic city....a city of ' pioneers.'  He could not have chosen a more perfect word actually, as Vancouver is an Aries, born on (incorporated on) April 6th, 1886.  Aries is the sign of pioneers - full of those who have boldly ventured forth to start new lives.  Everyone seems to want to come west.  I had never thought of my home town in quite that way before.  I always saw the Aries in our love of physical activity and adventure, which is easy due to our mid climate.  Thanks to Deepak I have a new perspective.  As an Aries myself, I do find affinity here.

Stanley Park seawall in Vancouver, Canada.

I love looking at the charts of cities and counties.  Look at India...a Leo Sun sign.  A super Leo really with 6 planets in that sign, and you can see it in the huge Bollywood industry and the gorgeous brightly coloured saris they love to wear.

France is a Libra, the sign of love and romance.  Librans also have an expert eye when it comes anything to do with beauty and esthetic appeal, and of course they are known for their exquisite taste and refined palette.  Australia is a Capricorn, believe it or not.  I've always sensed the Saggy-ness in Aussies.....since they're such world travelers and seem so laid back and loud.  The chart has 4 planets in Sag though, making them seem more Saggy in their attitude.  (Sort of like Brad Pitt in reverse....he's a Sagittarius Sun, but he has 4 planets in Capricorn.  He comes across as very Saggy with a good sense of humour and a laid back attitude.  He even looks lanky and outdoorsy, but I have no doubt he's very focused and practical underneath)

A few more examples are Indondesia with a Capricorn Sun and an Aries moon;

Ireland with an Aries Sun conjunct Mars in Aries and Venus in Aries - strong warrior aspects.  They will fight for what or whom they love.

Nepal is an Aquarius Sun with three other inner Pisces planets...the perfect blend of spirituality and the search for wisdom.

What is the birth sign of your country or city?

Eclipses and the fall of Kings....and a Queen!

Ancient Astrologers used Eclipses to predict the rise and fall of Kings, and even today we can usually expect some notable personage to pass away close to the time of an eclipse.  The more powerful the eclipse, the more powerful the person.  Think back to 1999 when we had that most unusual and extremely powerful Grand Cross eclipse on August 11th.  Two of the most famous personalities in the world died within weeks of that eclipse -  Princess Diana in late August, and John Kennedy Jr a few weeks before on July 16th. Heath Ledger died within 2 weeks of a Solar Eclipse in January of 2008, and it also hit a very deep chord within the public, as did Michael Jackson's death in June of 2009, which was also within 2 weeks of an Eclipse.  The effect of an eclipse can last up to 6 months, although some say it can carry through for a year or even longer, depending on its strength.  Eclipses can also be activated before they actually occur.

There was no eclipse around the time of Whitney Houston's death on January 11th, but it did trigger the next Solar Eclipse which takes place on May 20th, 2012.   This eclipse has the Sun and Moon conjunct at 0 Gemini.  Whitney's funeral was on Feb 18th, the day that the Sun hit 0 Pisces and triggered that Eclipse position, and at the same time came up to conjunct Neptune at 0 Pisces, which is also now squaring ansd triggering that eclipse position.  It's a very Neptunian signature we have here, and Whitney herself was a Pisces rising (Neptune), a talented artist (Neptune) and was known for her battles with drugs and alcohol (Neptune)

Unfortunately Whitney is the poster child for both the positive and negative aspects of Neptune.  Her death has symbolically opened the the lid of Pandora's box, and the widespread effects of prescription drug abuse is now starting to come to full light.  There was recently a special report on 60 Minutes and on CNN about new and previously undisclosed dangers of a popular anti-depressant.  The public may finally learn more about the addictive nature and dangers of all drugs in general and the true agenda of drug companies.  The Solar Eclipse on May 20th will likely bring about another huge revelation or two to light regarding this whole issue.

Saturn and the 7 year itch

The 7 year itch is actually a real thing!  Saturn squares itself approximately every 7 years, and one complete cycle takes about 29 years.  As that 'itch' comes up, hopefully people can work through whatever issues arise at the time, but sometimes its just a signal that its time to move on.  These are times when challenges arise and we feel tested and frustrated.  Sometimes the challenges seem too big to overcome and we just throw in the towel.  The Saturn traits of patience, perseverance and endurance are the only way through, or sometimes we become clear that there is no way through and its time to end things.  It could be 7 years from when you started a job, got married or moved into a new house.  Heidi Klum and Seal got married 7 years ago in 2005 and now they have announced they are divorcing.

Marc Anthony and J Lo were married for 7 years (June 2005 to July 2011) when they announced their divorce.

Demi and Ashton were married for just over 6 years, so it will be 7 this year, but they also had Uranus opposing their Marriage Chart Sun.  Uranus can be sudden and unpredictable, like an unexpected issue that came up and floored one of them (his cheating maybe?)

What about Brad and Angelina?  They never got married.  Well, the Magi Astrologers say that if you don't have a marriage chart, then use the date of first sex as the date of the conception of the union.  So, in this case, we know they got together shortly after they filmed Mr. and Mrs. Smith.  Their first public outing together was in Nov of 2005, so lets say say its around the fall of 2005.  That makes their first Saturn square to be in 2012.  Perhaps this is when they will decide to get married and give in to the pressure (Saturn) from the kids.  Saturn does also rules commitment.

A Saturn cycle is about 29 years and brings about a natural ending to whatever began 29 years ago.  Look at Regis Philbin.  He began as host of his morning TV show in 1982 and then retired in 2011, 29 years later.  A natural conclusion to that particular chapter of his life.

Are you going through a Saturn square in some aspect of your life?  Tell us about it.

Celebrities with Sun or Asc in Cancer rule the world !

I've long noticed the preponderence of celebrities that have their natal Sun or Asc in the sign Cancer.  The list is long and varied...and even many foreign actors who come to America that do very well are Cancerian types as well.  The US itself is a Cancer Sun sign, born on the 4th of July, and Canada too born on July 1st.  So anyone who has strong Cancer in their natal chart is going to resonate with the American chart.  Americans love anything Cancerian (like mom and apple pie) and if you have Cancer in your natal chart they're going to love you too!

For instance, the top box office draws for the last 20 years include Cancer Sun signs Harrison Ford, Tom Hanks, John Cusack, Sky Stallone, Meryl Streep, Tom Cruise, and on and on. Cancer risings include the likes of Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie,  Arnold Schwarzenneger, Cameron Diaz, Cindy Crawford, John Travolta, etc...  There are a handful of foreign born actors that made it big in America, and if they have strong Cancer in their charts, the public seems to embrace them. Think of Aussie Mel Gibson with his Cancer rising, or Bryan Brown, or even Victoria Beckham (well, she did make the show called 'Coming to America, and she actually did relocate there). Princess Diana too was a Cancer Sun, which explains the mutual love affair between her and the US.  Aussie Nicole Kidman has only Mercury in Cancer in her natal chart, but her Sun had progressed into Cancer when she hit it big with Dead Calm, and then really big after Days of Thunder with the most famous Cancerian movie star of all!

This is a broad generalisation of course, as obviously not every celeb is a Cancer Sun or rising, but if you yourself have the Sun or Asc in Cancer, your odds of making it big are higher than us other poor slobs who don't.  Or, progressed planets in Cancer will up the odds in your favour too.  Or, you could even relocate to a city that puts Cancer on your relocated Asc.
